BBC JAM History 11-14 involves students in History class by making them part of it, creating young historians to tell their side of the story.
JAM History 11-14 recreates the British campaign in Mesopotamia during World War I (1914-1918). The students can explore real-life conditions in the battle field, the role of women in war, victory and defeat and how both were affronted, the implications of different races and religions under the Army of the Queen of England, the Middle East and the eternal conflict between civilizations.
To complete this project we found one principle difficulty: the recreation of century-old scenery with new colour images. Because of that, realistic collages and visual effects were created.
The student navigates through scenes and gathers photographs and vintage videos, museum objects, letters from soldiers to their families and numerous testimonies recorded in video by professional actors.
The project is developed in Flash 7, to be later integrated on the SCORM 2004 platform with the BBC standard design, usability, and accessibility.
